Monday, April 22, 2024: For the first time in a conservative area a comprehensive session on menstrual hygiene management and nutrition was conducted in Government Girls Elementary School, Mari Indus city in which 105 participated including 91 students, 11 teachers, one health supervisor and 2 facilitators. PODA Woman Leader, Mukhtiar Shaheen with the support of her organization Noor Women Welfare Organization facilitated the session with nutrition supervisor working in the basic health unit of Mari Indus, Mah Jabeen Anwar. Initially students were reluctant to talk on the subject of menstruation. Afterwards they took keen interest and received information which was beneficial for them to protect their health and manage menstruation in a way to continue their attendance in the school without leaves. The headmistress of the School, Nusrat Batool appreciated the team for conducting a highly desirable informative session on a subject which is a taboo to talk on especially in conventional areas of Mianwali district where girls are married off at early age. “It is a highly significant activity to inspire girls to get education and later work as well,” the headmistress said. She advised the team to conduct more sessions in the community with mothers of these students so that they know about these healthy practices.
