PODA & Roshan Rahien Celebrates International Women’s Day – March, 2024 in Khanewal

Khanewal, Thursday 7th March 2024: Celebrating International Women Day, the speakers and participants declared education as the only key to protect girls from violence, discrimination, social and economic insecurity.

PODA and its partner organization Roshan Rahien headed by Bismillah Iram organized an impactful ceremony in Zilla Council Hall, Khanewal in which 250 prominent dignitaries of the city including Lawyers, Doctors, Teachers, Youth, Politicians, Social Activists, Media, Religious Scholars, Community Leaders, Writers and Social Activists participated and unanimously passed a resolution demanding to raise minimum age of marriage of girls to 18 years in Punjab for which national identity card must be declared mandatory.

The speakers were Ms. Shameela Aslam (MPA), Molana Ajmal Abbas (Religious Scholar), Ms. Nargis Jawad (Advocate), Ms. Sadaf (Assistant Commissioner – Coordination), Ms. Khatija (Program Manager – SPO) and Ms. Azooba (ADC Revenue). This event was supported by Royal Norwegian Embassy, Islamabad. PODA “Reduce Early Marriages to Enhance Gender Equality (REMs)” project’s Multan office incharge Ms. Sumera Sattar also spoke on the occasion and facilitated the event.

A large of students also participated in the essay writing competition which was announced earlier in local educational institutes on the topic of women’s achievements and the hurdles they face to achieve their goals. The winners received awards.
