Mobile Legal Aid Clinic Peshawar – Day 3
Thursday 20 August 2026: PODA, in collaboration with Noor Mera Ghar (NET) and the Association for Rehabilitation of Physically Disabled (ARPD), conducted a three-day Mobile Legal Aid Clinic at the ARPD Rehabilitation Center, Peshawar, from Tuesday 18 to Thursday 20 August 2026. The clinic reached more than 200 visitors, including women, youth, persons with disabilities, teachers, community activists and other community members from the surrounding areas of the ARPD Rehabilitation Center. It provided an accessible platform for community members to seek legal information, one-to-one consultations and guidance on issues affecting their rights and access to justice.
The 3-Day Mobile Legal Aid Clinic was organized under the project “Promoting Civic Leadership and Participation,” with support from the National Endowment for Democracy (NED). Each day, the collaborating organization, Noor Mera Ghar, provided a dedicated team of male and female lawyers to offer free legal aid and guidance to marginalized and vulnerable community members of Umeedabad No. 2. The administration of the ARPD Center actively supported the initiative by mobilizing community members and encouraging them to visit the legal clinic, bringing legal assistance directly to their doorstep. The clinic provided an accessible opportunity for individuals to seek professional legal advice on issues that they might otherwise be unable to address due to financial constraints, limited access to lawyers, or difficulties in approaching courts and relevant institutions.
The clinic was supported by the office of the Assistant Commissioner Cantt., Regional Office of Human Rights, Peshawar, and the Right to Public Services Commission, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa. Representatives of these institutions provided information, guidance, referrals and practical pathways for approaching relevant government departments and resolving public service-related concerns.
Over the three days, participants raised a wide range of concerns relating to legal identity and civil documentation, property and inheritance, family matters, disability rights, public services, harassment, child protection and access to justice. Key issues included CNIC registration and blockage, Form-B and birth registration, marriage and death registration, recovery of essential documents, women’s property and inheritance rights, illegal property transfers and powers of attorney, domestic violence, Nikah, divorce and Khula, dower and dowry, FIR registration, disability certificates and entitlements, education and employment, pension claims, harassment in public spaces and workplaces, online safety, and pro-women legal protections.
The clinic also promoted awareness of constitutional rights, including the right to education, legal identity, civic participation and access to public services. Participants were guided on appropriate legal and administrative forums, procedures for pursuing complaints and available remedies, with referrals made to relevant government departments, courts, civil society organizations, pro bono lawyers and other service providers where required.
The clinic achieved two key objectives: strengthening community awareness of legal identity, civic rights and participation, particularly among women, youth and persons with disabilities; and providing practical, individualized legal assistance through one-to-one consultations and referral pathways.
On the concluding day, particular attention was given to CNIC security and blockage, property and inheritance disputes, birth registration and documentation, pension claims, Khula, children’s safety, and harassment in public places and workplaces. The consultations demonstrated the continuing need for accessible legal aid and stronger awareness among communities, particularly women, young people and persons with disabilities, of their legal identity, rights and available remedies.
The concluding day was facilitated by the PODA team and a dedicated panel of lawyers representing Noor Mera Ghar (NET), comprising Advocate Sabiha Ikram, Advocate Khushnoud Zakirullah, Advocate Irum Jabeen Ansari, Advocate Shanzay Ali Khan, Advocate Mohammad Anwar, Advocate Khawaja Zahid Nasim and Nabeela Aslam. The team provided legal awareness, practical guidance and one-to-one consultations, helping visitors understand their rights, identify appropriate legal remedies and determine the next steps for pursuing their concerns.
