A Fight Against Early Marriage in District Kasur

District Kasur, Punjab | Child Protection | Girls’ Education

A.B., a Grade 7 student in District Kasur, was married off through watta satta (exchange marriage) and her family was preparing to send her away despite her wish to continue education.

After a PODA Pakistan awareness session on child marriage, her teacher recognized her situation and connected with focal person Irshad Safdar of Ittehad Welfare Foundation. Together, they approached the police, met with both families, and explained the legal consequences of early marriage.

Thanks to their timely intervention, both families agreed to stop the marriage and A.B. was allowed to return to school.

Awareness, action, and community support can change a girl’s life forever.
