PODA

PODA with the support of NED, conducted a three-day Mobile Legal Aid Clinic from 28–30 April 2026 at France Colony, F-7, Islamabad, to provide free legal aid, assistance, and counseling to vulnerable communities, especially women and the Christian community.

On Day 3, approximately 60 individuals approached the clinic seeking redressal of their grievances. PODA’s legal team, including Ms. Farah Naz Awan, Mr. Khawaja Zahid Nasim, Ms. Aiman Zahra, Mr. Attiq ur Rasool (Advocate), and Mr. Nisar (Advocate), provided legal advice, referrals to relevant institutions, and raised awareness on fundamental rights and legal procedures.

Special focus was given to the Christian Marriage (Amendment) Act 2025, which now sets the minimum marriageable age at 18 years for both parties. Informational brochures were also distributed to enhance community awareness.

The initiative was widely appreciated by community members, highlighting the importance of doorstep legal services. At the end of the Mobile Legal Aid Clinic, Ms. Sameena Nazir, Executive Director of PODA, and Mr. M. Afief Shakir, General Secretary, assured the community of their commitment to addressing the civic issues raised during the three-day clinic. In the presence of participants from France Colony, it was also agreed that a Mohalla Committee would be formed to collectively address concerns related to legal identity, sanitation, and other community issues.
