Wednesday 22 October 2025; In an awareness session organized by PODA with the facilitation of focal person, Rukhsana Arshad, girl students of a public school were educated, informed, and made aware on menstrual hygiene management, anemia, and breaking common myths such as avoiding showers and not eating certain foods during periods.

The facilitator shared information on anemia and urged the students to avoid junk food and instead take home-prepared meals rich in leafy green vegetables, nuts, and other nutritious items not only during periods but as part of their regular diet.

A few girls who had experienced illness shared during the session that when tested, their hemoglobin levels were found to be as low as 5 or 6. This highlighted the urgent need for awareness on anemia prevention and proper nutrition among adolescent girls.

After a detailed informative session, with a strong focus on the importance of hydration and foods that help reduce anemia, a health club was formed. An initial hygiene kit containing underwear, pads, and other essential items was distributed, along with informational material on how to make reusable pads.

During the session, girls shared that it is common practice to not change pads for more than 4 to 5 hours, avoid bathing, and reduce water intake to avoid using toilets. It was stressed that these practices must be changed to prevent infections and promote better menstrual hygiene.
